The Buzz And The Grand Old Lady

Many people love to come by and take a look at George Washington Inn. Every day cars drive up and down the drive to take a look at the grand old lady, a B&B between Sequim and Port Angeles, that sits majestically along the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Perhaps that is because she was built as a replica of Mount Vernon, George Washington’s beloved home. We all love to see the excitement in our visitors’ and guests’ eyes when they stop by or come to the door.

A couple of days ago the local newspaper editor  for the Peninsula Daily News came for a visit. We enjoyed talking about George Washington and some of the revolutionary battles in New York State where he had lived. I took him on a tour of the inn. In fact we received a nice thank you in the mail yesterday from him with two books on George Washington that he wanted to donate to the inn’s library.  Then a local contingent of the Washington State Troopers dropped by to take some group photos. And then yesterday a local blogger came by to take some pictures for her daily photo blog, namely “Sequim Washington Daily Photo“. Around here you never know what a day may bring along the way!

Last night the inn was full and four couples are here enjoying their visit with the grand old lady. In fact, an early riser (like me) just came down the stairs. I pointed him to a bald eagle sitting up in a tree. He inquired about a song bird that he didn’t recognize and headed off on the nature trail to investigate further. This is what we love to see. We want to share this corner of God’s creation. This is not ours; we are merely stewards of it and seek to use it for His benefit.

Psalm 24

The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For He hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.  Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in His holy place?  He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.  He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.  This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of Glory shall come in.  Who is this King of Glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.  Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of Glory shall come in.  Who is this King of Glory? The Lord of Hosts, He is the King of Glory. Selah.

  1. Still hoping to visit the ‘grand old lady’ (referring to the Inn, not Jan). It’s a ‘fer piece’ from South Carolina.
