The innkeeper stays as “busy as a bee” making the inn a great place for our guests. She makes an amazing “Martha!” Martha Washington was known to be as “steady as a clock, busy as a bee and cheerful as a cricket.” You ought to follow the innkeeper around at this Mount Vernon “West” some day and you would agree with me. Yesterday was jam-making day. Here’s a recipe for blackberry lavender jam that I found laying on the counter this morning in her own handwriting. I didn’t ask her if I could share it, but we don’t keep very many secrets around here.
Blackberry Lavender Jam
Steep 1/4 cup of culinary lavender in 2 cups boiling water for 20 minutes. Put through cheesecloth (will make @ 1 1/2 cups “tea”).
8 cups blackberries (use a Squeezo to get rid of the seeds)
1/2 cup lemon juice
8 cups sugar
Makes 14-16 @ 1/2 pint jars.
