Now that I have your attention, let me assure you that only two night packages are up for auction at George Washington’s Mount Vernon at their Auction, By George!, where you can buy a ticket to attend for $500, $750 or $1000. The best seats at the VIP table are yours for $50,000 and will give you additional perks as a Platinum Benefactor.
According to Mount Vernon’s website, this black tie event will be held on the East Lawn between George Washington’s beloved Mansion and the Potomac River. Proceeds will be used to support the education and preservation programs at George Washington’s Estate.
An Auction, by George! will be an evening never to be forgotten, with Christie’s auctioneer Thomas Lecky, well known from The Antiques Roadshow, conducting the spirited live auction.
Here’s the dilemma. Do you want to have a private dinner with Newt Gingrich on the piazza at Mount Vernon or spend two wonderful days relaxing at George Washington Inn? Click here to view the inn on the Silent Auction page or take a look at auction items #404 and #405 on Getaways on the Mount Vernon website. Here is the listing as noted:
“Stay at this Mount Vernon look-alike bed & breakfast inn between Sequim and Port Angeles, Washington (how appropriate!) for two nights in one of the deluxe suites during the months of September through May, subject to availability. The majestic snow-capped Olympic Mountains spread across the southern sky and evening lights of Victoria, British Columbia sparkle from a distant shore, only a ferry ride away. Proprietors Dan and Janet Abbott, who are Mount Vernon contributors and have visited here many times, created a one-of-a-kind inn that is an almost-exact replica of George Washington’s mansion on the outside. They can regale you with stories of their efforts working with Mount Vernon staff on details as they built the inn.
Meanwhile, your deluxe suite offers a king bed, spa tub and shower, HDTV, parlor with kitchenette, private entrance, and veranda access. The room has an ocean view from the bedroom and mountain view from the parlor. Enjoy Mount Vernon western-style just two hours from Seattle. Included in the gift basket is a 12-ounce bag of George Washington Coffee, a mug and a sachet of Washington lavender.”
